Separable from Platysphinx phyllis and Platysphinx piabilis only convincingly on genitalia. Forewing upperside with numerous speckles, unlike Platysphinx piabilis. Forewing underside with large red patches or a red band below the cell, absent from Platysphinx phyllis. Uncus short, terminating in two well-sclerotised rounded lobes.Gnathos with medial process much broader at base, tapering gradually. Valva trilobed, upper lobe strongly sclerotised, very long, narrow and pointed; mesal lobe rounded and membranous. Harpe a long, well sclerotised spine-lime process. Aedeagus longer and more slender than in Platysphinx constrigilis with long terminal hook-like carina on ventral surface; vesica with a comb of dense spines. Ostium bursae prominent.Sterigma well-sclerotised, broad and bilobed.Ductus bursae long.Corpus bursae small, spherical and with central minutely spinose, U-shaped signum.
