Taxonomic Notes:
Synonymized with Psilogramma increta by Kitching and Rougerie et al., 2018, Biodivers. Data J. 6: e22236.
Psilogramma andamanica was distinguished from Psilogramma increta by small differences in the wing pattern and the shapes of the apical “fishtail” process on the phallus and the lamella antevaginalis. The wing pattern in Psilogramma increta is highly variable individually with specimens from the same location ranging from pale grey with a poorly defined pattern of transverse lines and bands to brownish-grey individuals with quite well-developed transverse bands and lines. Likewise the shapes of the phallus apical process and lamella antevaginalis are also highly variable and the shapes described for Psilogramma andamanica fall well within the range of individual variation for Psilogramma increta and are not indicative of species status. Furthermore, DNA barcode data place the holotype, allotype and paratype of Psilogramma andamanica deep within a cluster formed of numerous samples of Psilogramma increta from localities ranging from Japan to Nepal, Assam, Thailand and Vietnam (BIN AAA2716). Consequently, there is no justification for maintaining Psilogramma andamanica as a species.
