SYNTYPE(S) [♂] "Nankow Pass, between Mongolia and China" [China: Beijing, Nankou] (Swinhoe), «Sphingidae genitalia slide No. 230♂, NHMUK 010588501» [NHMUK]. There is only a single male with appropriate labels in NHMUK. The type locality refers to the rail pass through the Great Wall, northwest of Beijing; the 'Mongolia' referred to being Inner Mongolia (Nei Mongol Zizhiqu).
