Smerinthus caecus
Sexually dimorphic, as in Smerinthus ocellata and resembling a small Smerinthus ocellata. Forewing upperside with markings more intense than in Smerinthus ocellata. Hindwing upperside with black ocellus at the tornus less complete that in Smerinthus ocellata but more complete than in Smerinthus kindemannii; blue streaks in the ocellus not forming a circle, as they do in Smerinthus ocellata.
Male genitalia: Uncus similar to that of Smerinthus cerisyi but sinuate at apex. Gnathos as slender as that of Smerinthus cerisyi. Juxta as in Smerinthus cerisyi, with sides sinuate. Valve a little narrower than in Smerinthus cerisyi. Harpe emarginated ventrally before end, apex and upper edge densely covered with short spines. Phallus with a subapical carinate spine and patch of small spines; vesica with patch of cornuti.
Female genitalia: Sterigma short. Ostium bursae very large, its proximal edge slightly raised, thickened and sinuate.
