Smerinthus saliceti
Diagnostic description:
Very similar to Smerinthus cerisyi, but: forewing upperside slightly more orange than in Smerinthus cerisyi. Forewing upperside tornal eyespot differs in detail from that of Smerinthus cerisyi (q.v.).
Male genitalia: Gnathos with medial lobe relatively broad and with a very blunt apex. Juxta with process short. Harpe with free apex hardly developed. Phallus with apical tooth short.
Female genitalia: similar to those of Smerinthus cerisyi.
Distribution:
A specimen in CMNH purportedly from "Caracas" is considered mislabelled; it is not mapped.
