Sphingonaepiopsis gorgoniades
Diagnostic description:
Forewing sinuate posterior to vein CuA1. Body and forewings grey. Colour and pattern subject to environmentally induced variation: in wetter areas, moths are larger, darker and more contrastingly marked; in drier areas, they are smaller, paler and less well marked. Abdomen upperside with three pairs of prominent lateral white dots. Hindwing underside brown. Antennae dentate, the teeth short.
Male genitalia: Uncus quite flat, convex dorsally, apex rounded. Gnathos narrow, pointed. Valve sole-shaped. Harpe short, dilated dorsally and distally at the apex. Phallus with a long flat process just proximal to the apical edge, curved laterally and anteriorly, not dentate.
