Sphinx chersis subsp. mexicanus
Darker than Sphinx chersis chersis, but the ground colour purer whitish grey, without a clayish hue. Abdomen upperside with 4 or more prominent transverse pale bands, not 3 as in Sphinx chersis chersis. Forewing upperside with costal markings, the oblique subbasal post-cellular double line, and the dark area proximal to the black submarginal line all more distinct than in Sphinx chersis chersis; fringe with well-marked white spots. Forewing underside with basal half of discal cell brownish black, not uniclourous as in Sphinx chersis chersis. Hindwing upperside with black discal band broad, sharply angled distally at vein 1A, so the pale submarginal band appears much more sinuate than in Sphinx chersis chersis. Identical to those of Sphinx chersis chersis.
