General description:
Synonymized with Sphinx ligustri by Leech, 1888, Proc. zool. Soc. Lond.1888: 589. Reinstated as a species by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera1: 692. Resynonymized with Sphinx ligustri as a geographic variety by Staudinger, 1901, in Staudinger & Rebel, Cat. Lepid. Pal. Faunen.1: 101. Reinstated again as a species by Kishida, 1987, Tinea12 (suppl.): 300.
Morphology:
Structurally similar to Sphinx ligustri; pattern similar, but the pink colour less intense. Hindwing upperside with antemedian and median pale bands connected at costal and inner margins, a situation rare in Sphinx ligustri; the bands much less pink.
