Lintneria geminus
Transferred to Sphinx by Rothschild, 1919, Novit. Zool.26: 200.. Transferred to Lintneria by Tuttle, 2007, The Hawkmoths of North America: 97.
Almost identical in appearance to Lintneria lugens apart from the presence of 5 conspicuous black spots on the underside of the abdomen. Forewing underside with a broad dark median band consisting of a proximal and a distal narrower bands, the space between largely dark; this band, which is contiguous with that of the hind wing, is much more prominent than in Lintneria lugens. Hindwing underside with dark median veins more diffuse than in Lintneria lugens, slightly diffuse costally, thus giving the appearance of a single broad band throughout, unlike in Lintneria lugens, not produced along the veins to interrupt the pale submarginal band, which is broader than in Lintneria lugens. Uncus as in Lintneria lugens.Gnathos narrower than in Lintneria lugens.Harpe distinctive from Lintneria lugens, rounded distally, reaching beyond the middle of the valve, slightly curved dorsad distally, the ventral and dorsal edges almost parallel, the dorsal edge heavily dentate, the ventro-apical edge less so.Aedeagus as in Lintneria lugens. Ostial plate concave distally, the lateral edges raised distally.Ostium large, each side with a small groove formed by a proximal and distal fold that are fused laterally.
