Sphinx gordius
Similar in structure to Sphinx luscitiosa, but the lobes of the pulvillus are much longer. Smaller than Sphinx oslari. Hindtibia more spiny in the female than in the male. Abdomen underside with medial spots distinct, elongate, larger than in Sphinx oslari. Forewing upperside more shaded with blackish brown than in Sphinx oslari; less contrast between the discal/post discal part and the costal and marginal areas. Hindwing upper- and underside discal band very distinct (cf. Sphinx oslari); basal area grey to pale grey, without the yellowish colouration of Sphinx luscitiosa.
Male genitalia: Uncus strongly compressed, highest before the apex, hooked, pointed, the dorsal surface reduced distally to a line. Gnathos triangular, obtusely pointed. Valve similar to those of Sphinx luscitiosa and Sphinx drupiferarum, but more rounded dorsally, the apex less broad; subdorsal fold broad, short. Harpe with a short, broad, rounded, concave, unarmed ventral process; and a much longer, narrower, irregularly dentate, subdorsal one that curves ventrad. Juxta more pointed than in Sphinx luscitiosa. Phallus ending in a straight, solid, sharply pointed, conical process.
Female genitalia: Ostial plate convex mesially, impressed laterally, the proximal edge sharply marked; ostium subterminal, in a cavity that extends to the distal edge of the ostial plate.
