Holotype ♂ [Greece:] Île de Candie [Crete] [CMNH]. The male labelled "type" in the CMNH does not quite match the type information of either Boisduval or Bugnion and its status as the holotype remains uncertain.

Reinstated as a species by Butler, 1876, Trans. zool. Soc. Lond. 9: 558. Resynonymized with Chaerocampa clotho by Maassen, 1880, Stettin. ent. Ztg 41: 56. Reinstated as a species and transferred to Theretra by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 654.
