Theretra capensis
Rather variable; upperside of body and wings usually pale olive-green but sometimes all red. Labial palp segment 1 apical cavity well defined, with no long scales projecting into or over it (unlike Theretra alecto).Upperside of abdomen as in Theretra jugurtha jugurtha but basal subdorsal patches reddish. Forewing upperside ground colour usually uniform pale olive-green, although reddish and brownish specimens occur (especially females); discal spot pale red, beyond which and towards the costa, is a darker olive-green shade; fifth postmedial line usually the only conspicuous one, ranging from very thin to quite broad. Hindwing upperside pale red with an indistinct olive-green or reddish marginal band.
Male genitalia: Uncus narrower than in Theretra alecto, not sinuate. Gnathos broad, parallel-sided, apex rounded-truncate, the sides somewhat bent upwards, so the apex appears sinuate in distal view. Valve with numerous, rather large stridulatory scales. Harpe horizontal, upcurved distally, apex spatulate, concave dorsally. Phallus similar to Theretra jugurtha jugurtha but the apical process with the right lobe slimmer and the row of teeth on the left more extensive.
Female genitalia: Edge of ostium bursae elevated as a thin smooth ridge that gradually decreases distally.
