Xylophanes colinae
Intermediate between Xylophanes ceratomioides and Xylophanes guiananesis, but smaller, with more rounded wings and an even more strongly scalloped outer forewing margin than Xylophanes guianensis. Dorsal abdominal lines as in Xylophanes ceratomioides but outer lines rather more continuous from segment to segment. Abdominal segments 5 and 6 with small sublateral tufts of dark brown scales (these scales are very easily lost, and are always so in specimens stored in paper triangles with the wings raised). Pattern of forewing upperside most similar to Xylophanes ceratomioides but most distal antemedial line and most basal postmedial line meet on inner edge of forewing upperside (as in Xylophanes guiananesis); pale brown excavated area on outer margin of postmedial band as in Xylophanes ceratomioides but narrower, hence appearing smaller. Pale subbasal and medial bands of hindwing upperside pale orange-brown (off-white in Xylophanes ceratomioides and Xylophanes guianensis). Male wingspan: 72-78 mm, average = 74 mm (n = 13).
Male genitalia: Uncus shorter than in Xylophanes ceratomioides and Xylophanes guianensis, ventrally more concave, apical part narrower and tapering to a finer point. Harpe shorter and broader than in Xylophanes ceratomioides and Xylophanes guianensis, only very slightly dentate along dorsal edge. Apical margin of phallus similar to that of Xylophanes ceratomioides but right side produced into a longer double tooth and the left side with more dentate process, the teeth mostly occurring in pairs.
