Xylophanes cosmius
Similar to Xylophanes amadis but outer margin of forewing scalloped and more excavate below apex (giving the wing a more falcate appearance). Abdomen lacking subdorsal lines of spots on the posterior margins of the tergites; lateral patches at base of abdomen more poorly defined than in Xylophanes amadis. Outer spur of midtibia about one-third shorter than inner. Forewing upperside with same general pattern as in Xylophanes amadis but discal spot more conspicuous due to it being surrounded by a small paler area; darker cloud distal to discal spot smaller, subtriangular and more well-defined; fringes chequered black and white.
Male genitalia: Uncus feebly spatulate, truncate. Gnathos triangular, apically rounded. Valve with seven large stridulatory scales. Harpe slender, tapering, curved upwards at apex, which is faintly denticulate. Phallus with a broad streak of numerous small teeth on left side, the convex area on which this streak is situated rounded at apex; right side produced into an obtuse process that is as broad as long, entirely covered in teeth and directed anteriorly.
