Xylophanes dolius
Similar to Xylophanes hydrata in forewing shape but ground colour brown (not green) and with differences in pattern. Abdomen without basal lateral patches; lateral stripes pale golden yellow; dorsal median line narrow, flanked by two diffuse lines weakly emphasized by spots on the posterior margins of the tergites. Base of forewing upperside, as far as midpoint of discal cell pale grey; middle third brown, with a conspicuous small discal spot, immediately beyond which are two or three short, darker brown longitudinal dashes; distal third yellowish grey; first postmedial line strong from inner margin to M3, then becoming diffuse; second, third and fourth postmedian lines thin, narrow, parallel and equal in intensity; fifth postmedial line arising from a small triangular dark patch on the inner margin, diffuse between CuA2 and M3, then broader towards the apex where it merges with a short, broad apical line; space between fourth and fifth postmedial lines between Rs3 and M2 suffused with orange; first submarginal line strong; second submarginal line broken up into a narrow cloud of minute dashes running parallel to the outer margin. Basal half of forewing underside brown, distal part yellow, irrorated with brown; apex with a conspicuous brown patch bounded by Rs3 and the fourth postmedial line; tornus with a brown patch between CuA1 and the inner margin, bounded by the first submarginal line; marginal area between these two patches paler, yellow suffused with orange. Hindwing upperside dark brown; pale medial band poorly developed, often suffused with black over distal half. FWL: 30-32 mm (average = 31 mm) (n = 3).
Male genitalia: Uncus long. Gnathos long, sides almost parallel, apex rounded. Valve with about seven large stridulatory scales. Harpe very slender, curved upwards at apex, tapering, denticulate distally.
