Xylophanes falco
Most similar to Xylophanes monzoni but generally paler, with a less diffuse pattern and more falcate forewings. Antennal flagellomeres without long basal cilia. Abdomen with long, pale hair-like scales (as in Xylophanes ceratomioides). Outer spur of midtibia shorter than inner. Underside of abdomen with two longitudinal grey lines. Forewing upperside pale brown-beige from base to apex, basad of postmedial band, with scattered black scales restricted to the leading edge anterior to the discal spot; base of wing with pale purple suffusion; traces of two medial lines from inner margin, both reaching only as far as CuA1; full complement of five dark brown postmedian and two submarginal lines, all sharply defined and converging to the apex so accentuating the falcate nature of the wing; basalmost postmedial line slightly concave basad. Forewing underside less contrastingly patterned than in Xylophanes monzoni. Hindwing upperside ground colour pale brown; medial band comprising two thin, straight, dark brown lines; submarginal band present of similar colour and width to two medial lines, distinctly darker than the grey marginal band (in Xylophanes monzoni, both bands are a similar very dark grey). Hindwing underside less contrastingly patterned than in Xylophanes monzoni.
Male genitalia: Similar to those of Xylophanes monzoni but: Uncus more tapered and less strongly sclerotized, apically narrower in lateral view and less strongly truncate. Gnathos more tapered and less strongly sclerotized, distinctly shorter than uncus, dorsal surface with a shallow rounded basal bulge in lateral view. Harpe gradually tapered to a blunt point. Right apical process of phallus more strongly curved, almost at 90°; in both Xylophanes falco and Xylophanes monzoni, this process may be tapered to a single point or minutely dentate.
