Taxonomic Notes:
Proposed as a subspecies of Amplypterus gannascus. Raised to species status by Clark, 1917, Proc. New Engl. zool. Club 6: 57. Transferred to Adhemarius by d'Abrera, 1987, Sphingidae Mundi: 49, 51 (who treated it as a subspecies of Adhemarius gannascus on p.49 and as a species on p.51). Listed as a subspecies of Adhemarius gannascus by Bridges, 1993, Cat. Fam. Gen. Spec. Sphingidae of the World: VIII.1. Implicitly reinstated as a species by Racheli & Racheli, 1994, Atalanta 25: 262.
