Xylophanes libya
Female antennae andromorphic. Midtibial spurs variable in length; in males and some females the outer is longer than the inner, but is some females they are of equal length. Forewing upperside with first postmedial line double; fourth postmedial line heavier than the others, which are equally developed; most individuals with a black dot in discal cell opposite CuA2; a black subapical costal spot present in many individuals. Forewing underside more heavily marked black and brown than Xylophanes loelia and Xylophanes neoptolemus; ground colour uniform beyond brown basal patch; first postmedial line arising from the brown basal patch area, usually reaching Rs3 and interrupted at the veins; fourth postmedial line consisting of a row of vein spots; conspicuous black subapical spot present. Hindwing upperside dark brown or black; medial band pale orange-pink, parallel sided along most of its length, concave proximally between veins M2 and CuA2, not reaching the apex or costal margin (sometimes stopping at M1); black marginal band broadest between M2 and CuA2, often distinctly dentate near M2. Hindwing underside more heavily marked black and brown than Xylophanes loelia and Xylophanes neoptolemus; with two postmedial lines, the inner more marked and formed by a series of spots; brown marginal band also subdivided into spots from Sc+R to CuA1, the spot between M2 and M3 more basally projecting than the others.
Male genitalia: Uncus truncate-sinuate. Harpe slender, curved distally and pointed. Aedeagus with an apical process, left lobe an oblique slightly raised ridge with a band of irregularly arrayed teeth, right lobe a short dentate process directed anteriorly.
