Xylophanes monzoni
Very similar to Xylophanes falco but generally darker, with a more diffuse pattern and less falcate forewings. Underside of abdomen lacking the two longitudinal grey lines of Xylophanes falco. Forewing upperside very similar to Xylophanes falco but pale brown-beige area basad of postmedian lines covered with scattered black scales; distal median line almost reaching discal spot; basalmost postmedial line straight (slightly concave basad in Xylophanes falco); postmedial and submarginal lines less conspicuous against the ground colour, so not accentuating the falcate nature of the wing as much as in Xylophanes falco. Hindwing upperside more contrastingly patterned than in Xylophanes falco. Submarginal and marginal bands both very dark grey, almost black (in Xylophanes falco, the submarginal band is black and the marginal band is grey, giving a two-tone effect). Underside more contrastingly patterned than in Xylophanes falco. FWL: 41 mm.
Male genitalia: Similar to those of Xylophanes falco but: Uncus less tapered and more strongly sclerotized, apically broader in lateral view and more strongly truncate. Gnathos less tapered and more strongly sclerotized, approximately equal in length to uncus, dorsal surface evenly concave in lateral view. Harpe spatulate and broadly rounded apically. Right apical process of phallus less strongly curved; in both Xylophanes monzoni and Xylophanes falco, this process may be tapered to a single point or be minutely dentate.
