Xylophanes pyrrhus
Similar to Xylophanes thyelia thyelia but much larger and forewing apex slightly more elongate and falcate. Forewing upperside similar to Xylophanes thyelia thyelia but: discal spot smaller; third and fourth postmedial lines very narrow and close, but never fused, continuing below M3 as a pair of more diffuse but essentially continuous lines; fifth postmedial line continuing below M3 to the inner margin as a narrower and diffuse line; Rs4, basal to second postmedial line, highlighted with buff over its entire length. Forewing underside similar to that of Xylophanes thyelia thyelia but the most basal of the three dark brown postmedial lines further from the middle line than that line is from the most distal line, and slightly divergent from the other two apically. FWL: 33-37 mm.
Male genitalia: Similar to those of Xylophanes thyelia thyelia but: Ventral edge of uncus with a small triangular process. Valve with three stridulatory scales. Harpe longer, tapering more gradually and barely upcurved apically; apex blunt. Left lobe of apical process of phallus with more, slenderer and somewhat divergent teeth; right lobe with a single regular row of teeth along its inner edge.
