Taxonomic Notes:
18. Proposed originally as an [individual] form of Amplypterus gannascus in which the forewing is reddish-yellow. Implicitly treated as a subspecies of Amplypterus gannascus by Cary, 1951, Trans. Amer. Ent. Soc. 77: 89, who thereby made the name available. Resynonymized with the nominotypical subspecies as an individual form by Bridges, 1993, Cat. Fam. Gen. Spec. Sphingidae of the World: VIII.1. Raised to species status by Vaglia & Haxaire, 2005, Lambillionea 105: 18.
