Xylophanes schwartzi
Similar to Xylophanes rhodochlora but immediately distinguishable by the carmine-red undersides of the wings, which is unique in the Xylophanes crotonis-group. Inner margin of tegulae edged with a very narrow pink line. Underside of palps, thorax and abdomen pale pink. Forewing upperside pure olive-green; discal spot conspicuous, round, black; first postmedian line weak, extending from inner margin only as far as CuA1 at most; fourth postmedian band khaki, running from inner margin to apex; forewing base with a tuft of black scales beyond which a thin pink line runs along the inner margin for half its length. Underside of forewing dark grey or black as far as the end of the discal cell; remainder of wing bright carmine-red (similar to that of Xylophanes mirabilis) with scattered black scales. Hindwing upperside similar to Xylophanes nabuchodonosor but spots of median band very obscured by a powdering of green scales. Underside of hindwing carmine-red with a dense sprinkling of scattered black scales; basally tending towards pale pink. Wingspan: 80-85 mm. Wingspan: 89-95 mm. Typical of the Xylophanes crotonis group but much smaller and much less sclerotized.
