Afroclanis calcareus
Similar to Pseudopolyptychus foliaceus but distinguishable by the weaker forewing markings and orange hindwing upperside. Thorax uniform brown. Abdominal tergites with spines confined to posterior margins. Proboscis well-developed. Palps short. Tibiae spinose; two pairs of long stout spineless hindtibial spurs. Forewing upperside almost uniform brown, with a trapezoidal subapical patch that is truncate on M1. Hindwing upperside almost uniform orange, tornus with indistinct brown marginal markings. FWL: 29-32 mm.
Male genitalia: Uncus very short and broad, ending in two blunt, well-sclerotized lateral spines. Gnathos an undivided median lip. Saccus short and rounded. Valve oval. Harpe a longitudinal toothed ridge ending in a rounded posterior lobe surmounted by setae; a central membranous area above the ridge. Phallus short and stout, ending in a funnel armed with numerous sharp teeth and a rounded structure with smaller teeth.
Female genitalia: Lamella postvaginalis a narrow, ill-defined transverse sclerotized band. Antrum short, broad, well-sclerotized. Corpus bursae pear-shaped, membranous, sclerotized and fluted basally.
