Afrosphinx amabilis
Immediately distinguishable by the rounded forewings and uniform orange-brown upperside speckled with brown. Forewing upperside generally uniform orange-brown, speckled with brown and crossed by two narrow antemedial and two narrow postmedial lines; area distal to discal cell between Rs3 and M2 with a contrasting diffuse patch that can be deep orange, deep yellow or white, with a small apical patch of the same colour.
Male genitalia: Uncus long, with a short apical hook and a slight constriction near base. Gnathos a prominent but blunt plate. Anellus with two minutely rugose rounded plates. Saccus very long, narrow, apically spatulate. Valve elongate, apically rounded. Harpe with a subapical, rounded, densely spinose lobe. Phallus stout, straight, with a downcurved apical hook.
Female genitalia: Postvaginal plate irregularly sclerotized, with a lateral triangular flap projecting lateral of ostium bursae. Ostium bursae anterior margin irregularly dentate. Antrum represented by two lightly sclerotized semicircular plates. Ductus bursae very long and slender. Corpus bursae very small, rugose. Signum absent.
