Diagnostic description:
Similar to Agrius convolvuli but: Slight sexual dimorphism, female forewing paler than that of the male. Lateral abdominal spots buff not pink. Forebasitarsus with three long, curved spines. Arolium strongly reduced. Hindwing upperside pale bands buff not grey; medial band single, narrow.
Male genitalia: Uncus shape intermediate between those of Agrius cingulata and Agrius convolvuli, less impressed dorsally than in either. Valve ventral margin produced into a short process with setose tubercles just distal to harpe. Harpe with two upwardly curved, pointed processes; ventral process as short as in Agrius luctifera but upper one more evenly curved.
