HOLOTYPE ♀ Philippines: [Luzon,] probably Manila (Prof. O.B. Johnson) [CMNH].
Taxonomic Notes:
Proposed as a subspecies of Oxyambulyx liturata. Raised to species status by Clark, 1936, Proc. New Engl. zool. Club 15: 91. Erroneously treated as a subspecies of Oxyambulyx liturata by d'Abrera, 1987, Sphingidae Mundi: 56. Transferred to Ambulyx by Bridges, 1993, Cat. Fam. Gen. Spec. Sphingidae of the World: VIII.2, who also considered that the reference by Clark (1936) was the description of a homonym. Implicitly reinstated as a species by Inoue, 1996, Bull Natn. Sci. Mus., Tokyo, Ser. A 22: 88.
