Ambulyx kuangtungensis (Mell, 1922)

In the most frequent form of Ambulyx kuangtungensis, the subbasal pattern element is formed from a round spot on the inner edge and a small spot on the costa. However, the subbasal spot can be enlarged in some individuals, filling the area posterior to the discal cell, and in extreme cases merges to form an almost  continuous band across the wings. Such specimens were described by Eitschberger, Bergmann & Hauenstein (2006) as Ambulyx adhemariusa, but are here considered to be simply a colour form.
