Ambulyx meeki subsp. pyrrhina
General description:
Proposed as a subspecies of Oxyambulyx meeki Rothschild & Jordan. Rothschild, 1919, Novit. zool.26: 206, attributed O. m. pyrrhina to Jordan, 1915, in Seitz, (ed.), Die Gross-Schmett. Erde10. However, this work had not appeared when Rothschild's paper was published. However, because Rothschild included no description, Oxyambulyx meeki pyrrhina remained a nomen nudum then. The taxon was subsequently described by Jordan (1923), but because of Rothschild's inadvertant reference, and because the relevant part of Die Gross-Schmett. Erde had still not been published (it eventually appeared in 1928, when Seitz merely mentioned A. m. pyrrhina in passing) he incorrectly attributed the authorship to Rothschild.
