Eitschberger (2006) considered that the various diagnostic features of the wing pattern and male and female genitalia were sufficient to warrant species status for mindanaoensis. However, many are quite variable both within and among populations, such as the shape of the gnathos and harpe, degree of development of the apical thorn on the phallus and the relative lengths of the diverticula on the vesica. Consequently, they are here considered to be of subspecific value.
