Anambulyx elwesi
Habitus: Superficially similar to a very dark Callambulyx rubricosa rubricosa but differing markedly in genital and other morphology. Frenulum present but reduced in length; retinaculum absent. Subapical pair of hindtibial spurs absent. Forewing upperside with distal two-thirds dark and proximal one-third green (turning brown in a humid atmosphere) and much paler. Hindwing upperside with deep pink basal area and a dark, almost black distal two-thirds in which a narrow lunate purple patch is discernible.
Male genitalia: Tegumen not hairy.Uncus smooth, apex rounded and downcurved, longitudinally grooved. Gnathos with a median triangular, apically rounded lobe. Valve with apex obliquely rounded. Harpe larger than lobe of valve, concave, spatulate, with apex produced into a pointed hook. Phallus longer dorsally than ventrally, obliquely truncate, lacking external armature.Vesica with a membranous flap densely covered with pointed tubercles.
Female genitalia: Sterigma deeply concave laterally. Ostium bursae with two anterior obtuse flaps, separated from each other by a deep sinus.
