Antinephele maculifera
Cannot be confused with any other sphingid due to the unique patterns of the forewing upperside and abdomen upperside and underside. Tegulae dark brown with a pale anterior spot. Upperside of posterior part of thorax and base of abdomen pale brown with a conspicuous dark brown median spot; contrasting markedly with the bright orange colour of the rest of the abdomen. Underside of head, thorax and abdomen white; abdominal segments with conspicuous medial dark brown triangular patches. Hindwing costa produced into a small lobe reminiscent of Hypaedalea. Forewing upperside with a large dark brown triangular patch basally on the costa; postmedian band with a large dark brown patch between M1 and CuA2; outer margin with a small dark brown apical spot and a larger dark brown patch below the apex from Rs4 to CuA1.
Male genitalia: uncus strongly compressed laterally, with a sharply downcurved, heavily sclerotized apical hook; gnathos shorter, slender, apically unsclerotized; saccus short and rounded; valve fairly rounded, with several stiff setae basally; stridulatory scales long and narrow, 7-8, not arranged in a straight line; harpe very short, upcurved; phallus with a short, simple apical spine; vesica with a short apical spine.
Female genitalia: sterigma poorly defined; antrum short and wide, slightly pointed to the left; ductus bursae saccate basally, fairly long and slender; corpus bursae elongated, pitted but not ribbed; signum very long, slender, shaped like a blade of grass, without spines or papillae; unlike those of other Antinephele.
