The analysis of the higher classification of Sphingidae using five nuclear genes by Kawahara et al. (2009: Figure 2) demonstrated that the group of genera comprising Andriasa, Chloroclanis, Polyptychus, Neopolyptychus and Pseudoclanis formed a well-supported monophyletic group, which are placed here in this informal genus-group. A new tribe should be erected for the group in due course. More inclusive concepts of the genera Polyptychus and Pseudoclanis (q.v.) are followed here than the unnecessarily oversplit concepts proposed by other authors (e.g. Carcasson, 1968 (in part); Eitschberger, 2007) (some updates still to be undertaken).
