Rhodambulyx namvui Eitschberger & Nguyen, 2017 [Invalid]

Synonymized with Rhodambulyx kitchingi by Eitschberger, 2018, Neue Ent. Nachr. 75: 95. Synonymized with Rhodambulyx davidi by Xu, Melichar, He, Zhang, C., Zhang, X.-Y., Feng & Hu, 2022, Zootaxa. 5105 (1): 58. Eitschberger (2018) (STI 21895) gave no reasons for synonymizing Rhodambulyx namvui with Rhodambulyx kitchingi. It is presumed that the only justification is that they both come from Vietnam. Given the apparent habitus differences between the type series of Rhodambulyx kitchingi and specimens from northern Vietnam, it remains unclear, in the absence of further data (including DNA barcode sequences for northern Vietnamese moths) whether this synonymy is correct or whether Rhodambulyx namvui is actually a synonym of Rhodambulyx davidi (which would be more consistent biogeographically) or even a valid species. This synonymy was enacted by by Xu et al. (2022) (STI 22495).
