Hippotion johanna (Kirby, 1877)

Synonymized with Hippotion brennus by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 758, as the form without the white, mesial, thoracic stripe that was considered confined to Queensland. Gehlen, 1926, Int. ent. Z. 20: 175, treated Hippotion johanna as a subspecies of Hippotion brennus that occurred on the coast of New Guinea. Synonymized with the nominotypical subspecies by Seitz, 1929, in Seitz (ed.), Die Gross-Schmett. Erde 10: 564. Reinstated as a species by Darge, 1975, Bull. Soc. ent. Fr. 80: 179.
