HOLOTYPE ♂ [Papua New Guinea:] Bismarck Archipelago, New Ireland, xi.1923 (F. Eichhorn) [CMNH]. The holotype was unnecessarily designated as lectotype by Eitschberger & Melichar, 2009, Neue ent. Nachr. 63: 122. With regard to the type material of Angonyx testacea bismarcki, Clark (1929) stated “One male (type) from New Ireland, Bismarck Archipelago, collected by F. Eichhorn, November, 1923, and presented to me by Dr. Karl Jordan of the Tring Museum. One male and one female from New Britain, received from C.F.H. Rosenberg in 1927. All in coll. B. Preston Clark”. The male from New Ireland is thus unequivocally the holotype and the two New Britain specimens paratypes. Therefore, irrespective of the fact that all three specimens represent different species, there is no ambiguity regarding the holotype of Angonyx testacea bismarcki and a lectotype designation was both incorrect and unnecessary.

Raised to species status by Eitschberger, 2006, Neue ent. Nachr. 59: 108. Resynonymized with Angonyx papuana as a subspecies by Eitschberger & Melichar, 2009, Neue ent. Nachr. 63: 121.
