Cautethia carsusi
Diagnostic description:
The largest species of the genus. Forewing upperside similar to Cautethia grotei grotei and Cautethia noctuiformis noctuiformis but much less contrasted. Male FWL: 19.5 mm; female FWL: 20.5 mm.
Male genitalia: Saccus rounded, much more reduced than the immense spatulate structure in Cautethia noctuiformis noctuiformis. Uncus and gnathos approximately equal; uncus slightly recurved; gnathos more strongly curved and slightly dentate. Valves elongate. Harpe rounded with small teeth along the dorsal edge (similar to that of Cautethia noctuiformis noctuiformis). Phallus dorso-apically produced as a heavily sclerotized, transversely oriented process covered in small teeth, which is unique in the genus.
