Holotype ♀ Tanganyika [Tanzania]: Iringa, Mufindi, ii.1960 (P. Burdon) [not NHMUK; NMKN?]. Carcasson, 1968, Jl E. Afr. nat. Hist. Soc. natn. Mus. 26 (3): 114, stated that the holotype was “to be deposited in the BM(NH)”. However, it is not in NHMUK and may still be in NMKN with the paratypes.

Proposed as a subspecies of Chaerocina dohertyi. Raised to species status by Darge, 2006, Lambillionea, 106: 309.
