Reinstated as a subspecies (as ‡gigantes) by Mell, 1935, Mitt. zool. Mus. Berl. 20: 344. Erroneously treated as a synonym of the nominotypical subspecies by Bridges, 1993, Cat. Fam. Gen. Spec. Sphingidae of the World: VIII.5. Reinstated as a subspecies of Clanis undulosa by Kitching & Spitzer, 1995, Tinea 14: 178.
