Coequosa australasiae
Similar to Coequosa triangularis but triangular costal patch of forewing upperside less clearly defined, forewing apex markedly truncate, orange area of hindwing upperside extending over most of the wing and sexual dimorphism more pronounced. Male: Forewing upperside similar to Coequosa triangularis but triangular costal patch less well defined distally and containing a conspicuous discal spot; a rectangular patch of the same colour medially on the posterior margin; area between and basal to these two patches much paler, giving a pattern reminiscent of a species of Callambulyx. Hindwing upperside similar to that of Coequosa triangularis but orange area extending over almost the entire wing, leaving only the anal area and extreme outer margin brown. Female: Forewing upperside similar to the male but with all pattern elements greatly reduced and inconspicuous.
Male genitalia: Uncus well longitudinally impressed above, strongly sclerotized, narrowed to a curved hook that is distally carinate underneath, triangular in cross-section and apically pointed. Gnathos a rather low, strongly sclerotized ridge, somewhat upcurved, faintly emarginate, minutely notched or granulose laterally, with rounded sides. Valve large, apically rounded, stridulatory scales absent. Harpe with two ventral processes, both pointing obliquely upwards. Phallus lacking armature.
Female genitalia: Tergite A8 transverse, rounded-truncate, angles strongly rounded. Sterigma large, strongly sclerotized, distal margin rounded, edge membranous, sides deeply concave. Ostium bursae situated at end of a prominent medial carina.
