Enyo lugubris (Taxonomy)
Transferred to Enyo by H├╝bner, [1827]-[1831], Zutr. Samml. exot. Schmett.: 3: 40; then to Epistor by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool.9 (suppl.): 401. Returned to Enyo by d'Abrera, [1987], Sphingidae Mundi: 105.
Thorax and tegulae an uncontrasting similar shade of grey. Forewing upperside with a distinct discal spot. Forewing underside with a distinct triangular orange subapical patch. Distinguishable from all other species of Enyo (except Enyo latipennis and Enyo boisduvali) by the lack of a forewing fold containing an androconial organ and the brown anal area of the hindwing upperside. Separable from Enyo latipennis and Enyo boisduvali by the forewings being narrower and more apically pointed, with less sinuate outer margins and a less variegated pattern. Forewing upperside lacking a fold containing an androconial organ. Anal area of hindwing upperside concolorous with the rest of the wing. Forewing upperside with the brown median area generally extending posteriorly along the antemedian line as far as CuA1, its inner margin oblique, not very sharply defined, somewhat concave, or straight, extending from stigma to end of R2, or to hinder angle. Uncus with a long, straight, medial process; the three ventral processes slender, close together.Gnathos asymmetrically apically dilated and twisted. Right and left valves different: left valve almost straight dorsally, ventral margin nearly straight to middle, where it is angled and produced into a short tooth, apex narrowed to a long truncate process; right valve with the ventral margin not angulate in the middle, without tooth, oblique from base to apical process.Aedeagus ending in a long thin process.
