Eumorpha intermedia (Taxonomy)
Synonymized with Pholus satellitia as a subspecies by Barnes & Benjamin, 1927, Bull. Southern Calif. Acad. Sci.26: 39. Synonymized with Eumorpha pandorus by Hodges, 1971, in Dominick et al., Moths Amer. N. of Mexico21: 124. Reinstated as a species and transferred to Eumorpha by Brou, 1981, J. Lepid. Soc.34: 302. Very similar to Eumorpha pandorus and Eumorpha satellitia licaon, but closer to the latter. Similar in general colour to Eumorpha satellitia licaon; distal margin as convex as in Eumorpha pandorus, more so than in Eumorpha satellitia licaon. Forewing upperside with the dark subbasal area of the posterior margin contiguous with the rhombiform median patch, but slightly lighter in colour (similar to Eumorpha pandorus but differing from Eumorpha satellitia licaon), the distal edge of this patch curving basad as it nears the posterior margin (unlike Eumorpha pandorus and Eumorpha satellitia licaon); postmedian lines nearly parallel to the outer margin, thus reaching the costa nearer the apex than in Eumorpha pandorus, more similar to those of Eumorpha satellitia licaon. Forewing underside dark brown with distinct pink tinge, especially on the hindwing (in marked contrast to the green of Eumorpha pandorus and the light brown of Eumorpha satellitia licaon). Hindwing upperside similar in colour to Eumorpha satellitia licaon; pink tinge of the inner margin less marked than in Eumorpha pandorus; black submarginal spots as large as in Eumorpha satellitia licaon, much heavier than in Eumorpha pandorus. Forewing length 38 mm. Similar to the male. Forewing length 44 mm.
