Taxonomic Notes:
Synonymized with Chaerocampa satellitia by Ménétriés, 1857, Enumeratio Corporum Anim. Mus. imp. Acad. Sci. Petropolitanae (Ins. Lepid.) 2 (Lepid. Heterocera): 92, who also incorrectly attributed satellitia to Drury. (This was because Drury, 1770, Illust. nat. Hist. exot. Insects 1: 64, stated that he was unaware of any description of the specimens he illustrated on pl. 29, figs I & II. However, in the index (1773), he subsequently referred his specimens to Sphinx satellitia Linnaeus.) Reinstated as a species by Maassen, 1880, Stettin. ent. Ztg 41: 59. Resynonymized with Pholus satellitia as a subspecies by Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, Novit. zool. 9 (suppl.): 481. Transferred to Eumorpha and reinstated as a species by Hodges, 1971, in Dominick et al., Moths Amer. N. of Mexico 21: 122 (key), 124.
