Gnathothlibus australiensis
Similar to Gnathothlibus eras but differs in its smaller size and the complete absence of any long hair scales on the foretarsi and a clear reduction in length and thickness of long hair scales covering the foretibiae in males (in this, Gnathothlibus australiensis resembles the western Gnathothlibus erotus). Differs from Gnathothlibus vanuatuensis in smaller size and more unicolorous appearance. Head and thorax dorsally medium brown, abdomen slightly lighter brown, small dark median spot on prothorax. Labial palps pinkish-brown above, white below. Thorax with a ventral whitish patch immediately posterior to labial palps, remainder light creamy-brown. Underside of abdomen light pinkish-brown, with three or four lateral tiny black spots surrounded by white. Ground colour of forewing upperside brown, with faint darker markings; a small black discal spot with lighter centre barely visible. Forewing underside yellow-brown in basal half without markings, distally brown slightly speckled with dark brown. Hindwing upperside orange with thin dark brown marginal band; with very little or no brown scaling from the inner margin of the thin, dark brown terminal band basally along veins R5 to CuA2. Hindwing underside orange-brown, heavily speckled with dark brown. Male forewing length: 33-38 mm, average = 35.7 mm.
Male genitalia: Uncus more arched in lateral view than in Gnathothlibus eras, distally more enlarged with a more pointed dorsal crest and slightly smaller ventral tooth; posterior dorsal margin evenly curved. Gnathos wide basally, tapering to a rounded point. Phallus with a short, small rounded apex with dorsal backwardly-directed tooth, with smaller ventral tooth a little proximad of dorsal tooth; apex of phallus shorter than in Gnathothlibus eras and Gnathothlibus vanuatuensis.
