Type data:

[HOLOTYPE] [♂] British East Africa [Kenya]: Kedai, 120 miles from coast, 2500', 25.xi. (W. Feather) [NHMUK]. A holotype was inferred from Rothschild & Jordan, 1916, Novit. zool. 23: 262, who stated that it had been badly damaged in the post on being presented to the Tring Museum.

Synonymized with Hippotion socotrense [sic] Rebel as a subspecies by Carcasson, 1968, Jl E. Afr. nat. Hist. Soc. natn. Mus. 26 (3): 126.
