Macroglossum prometheus subsp. lineata
Generally smaller than Macroglossum prometheus prometheus; distal margin of forewing shorter. Body underside greyer than in Macroglossum prometheus prometheus, with the middle of the thorax more whitish. Forewing upperside grey colour more prominent than in Macroglossum prometheus prometheus; antemedial lines mostly less oblique, often contiguous in the middle with the 1st discal line; grey postdiscal line at the distal side of the grey subapical costal patch prominent, dentate at vein Rs4; the double patch distal to this line more rufous than in Macroglossum prometheus prometheus. Hindwing upperside marginal band fairly constant in Queensland specimens, rather narrower in populations from the Louisiade Archipelago and d'Entrecasteaux Islands.
Male genitalia: Harpe shorter than in Macroglossum prometheus prometheus. Phallus with process variable in denticulation, sometimes multidentate on the surface and on the distal (not proximal, cf. Macroglossum prometheus prometheus) edge, sometimes with only a few prominent basal teeth on the distal edge.
