Taxonomic Notes:
Proposed as a subspecies of Protoparce scutata. Implicitly considered to be a synonym of Protoparce clarki by Kernbach, 1956, Ent. Z. 66: 66. Considered to be a probable synonym of Manduca scutata by Oiticica Filho, 1965, Bolm Mus. Para. Emilio Goeldi (N.S. Zool.) 56: 25. Implicitly reinstated as a subspecies of Manduca scutata by Bridges, 1993, Cat. Fam. Gen. Spec. Sphingidae of the World: VIII.15. Raised to species status by Haxaire & Herbin, 1999, Rev.
