Manduca violaalba (Taxonomy)
General description:
Transferred to Manduca by d'Abrera, [1987], Sphingidae Mundi: 28 (as ÔÇíviola-alba). Kernbach, 1957, Ent. Z.69: 83, erroneously synonymized violaalba with Protoparce i. incisa as a melanic form and also misinterpreted the specimens in MNHU as the holotype male and a paratype female. Erroneously synonymized with Manduca incisa by Carcasson & Heppner, 1996, Atlas Neotrop. Lepid.4B: 51. Reinstated as a species (as "viola-alba") by Haxaire & Herbin, 1999, Rev. Assoc. rouss. Ent.8: 71.
Morphology:
Distinguished from all other Manduca by the forewing upperside being dull violet, very similar in colour to Isognathus caricae, and with the hindwing upperside having the same pure white as Manduca manducoides. 39 mm.
