SYNTYPES "a series of males and females" [Comoro Islands:] Grande Comoro Island, ix-xii.1921 (G.F. Leigh) [CMNH; 1♂ NHMUK; MNHN]. The syntypic series was probably bred, hence the smaller size.

Proposed as a subspecies of Nephele accentifera. Raised to species status by Turlin, 1996, Lambillionea 96: 329.
