Nyceryx eximia
The moths described by Rothschild & Jordan (1903: 418-419; 1465) as Nyceryx tacita are misidentified Nyceryx eximia eximia (see Rothschild & Jordan 1916: 116-117; 804). Rothschild & Jordan (1903: 418; 1465) also stated that the forewing underside was chrome-yellow from the base to the postmedian area in these specimens. However, this is true of only some specimens of both Nyceryx eximia eximia and Nyceryx tacita; in others, this area can be pale brown or partly pale brown and partly yellow.
Very similar to Nyceryx tacita but distinguishable by the more extensive basal yellow area of the hindwing upperside and details of the pattern of the forewing upperside. Whitish lateral spots on underside of abdomen rather larger than in Nyceryx tacita. Forewing upperside very similar to Nyceryx tacita but: rather more purplish-brown; the dark patch on inner margin posteriorly produced towards the base of the wing, its inner edge curved; whitish grey lines more irregular in shape, postmedian line running obliquely from costa towards the inner margin convex; whitish-grey curved submarginal line that runs from the brown apical spot to the end on M3 lacks a distinct white spot; Hindwing upperside similar to Nyceryx tacita but basal yellow area more extensive, the blackish-brown marginal band being at most 3 mm wide on Rs. Forewing underside with a yellow area that extends over the basal two-thirds of the wing from the inner margin almost to the costa. 22.0-27.5 mm. Uncus and gnathos similar to those of Nyceryx nictitans but differing in the triangular tooth before the apical hook of the gnathos in Nyceryx nictitans being barely indicated. Juxta as in Nyceryx nictitans, with a single dentate process on each side above the aedeagus; ventrally a medial carina rising distally into a prominent tubercle; this carina rough with minute teeth.Harpe truncate, without free projecting process.Aedeagus with a low, rather long, dentate ridge on the right side; the membranous lobe on the left side little projecting; whip rather broad, with many setae.
