Phryxus caicus
Differs from species of Erinnyis on the even outer margin of the forewing, weak thoracic crest, M3 and CuA1 of the hindwing close together, and the diagnostic forewing pattern. Upperside of abdomen with equally wide, sharply delineated pale grey and black bands (as in Erinnyis ello). Forewing upperside pattern unique among Sphingidae: ground colour pale brown with fine longitudinal striations above M3; a bright white highlight along the posterior margin of the discal cell, extending along the basal parts of veins M3 and CuA1, with a third short dash between, a broad pale grey band along the inner margin, extending up the outer margin as far as M2; and a sharply defined narrow black line along the inner margin. Hindwing upperside most similar to that of Erinnyis crameri but the marginal black spots on each vein more sharply defined.
Male genitalia: Lobes of uncus about five times as long as medially broad, obtuse. Gnathos processes longer than uncus lobes, apices downcurved. Valve narrow, acuminate. Harpe slender, not distinctly dilated apically. Phallus similar to that of Erinnyis crameri.
